David O'Leary has swooped to sign Leeds United midfielder Eirik Bakke just hours before the transfer window closes. The Norweigen has signed a five-month deal which will keep him at the club until the end of January.

O'Leary previously signed Bakke when he was the manager at Leeds and he has decided to bring the player to Villa Park to provide back-up in midfield.

The signing of Eirik Bakke is quite surprising as he hasn't actually played much football in the last two years. He has sustained a number of injuries over that period of time and he has failed to put together a string of performances on the field.

Bakke is Aston Villa's seventh signing of the summer and the third in the last week following the arrivals of Milan Baros and Wilfred Bouma.
