Aston Villa will play host to Burnley in the third round of the Carling Cup this evening hoping to gain revenge for last season's surprise 3-1 defeat against the Clarets.

Aston Villa team news: Mark Delaney is set to make his first start of the season, deputising for Aaron Hughes who will miss out due to a recurrence of a hernia problem. Gavin McCann is also named in the squad for the first time this season but Milan Baros is unlikely to feature as he has not fully recovered from his achilles injury.

Burnley team news: Key midfielder Micah Hyde will miss out through suspension and Graham Branch is a doubt due to a calf strain. Danny Coyne and Wayne Thomas both remain on the sidelines.

History of this fixture: Aston Villa have played Burnley on 110 occasions with The Villans coming out on top in 47 of the matches. The Clarets have won 39 of the meetings and the remaining 24 clashes ended in a draw. Burnley have only ever won 8 matches at Villa Park but they will be hopeful of causing an upset as last season they beat Villa 3-1 at the same stage of the competition.

Match betting: Aston Villa win - 2/5
