Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie has handed David O'Leary a much-needed fitness boost ahead of Saturday's match against Liverpool.
Hendrie, who has not yet started a senior match this season, came through last night's 2-0 reserve victory over Everton unscathed.
The midfielder has been absent all season, firstly due to a suspension which he earned whilst playing in a pre-season friendly and also because of an operation which he then had on his knee.
However, with Villa in desperate need of an inspirational source who can add some much-needed energy to the lacklustre performances, Hendrie has confirmed that he is now fit enough to return to action.
Speaking after last night's reserve fixture, the 28 year-old said, "I came through fine. It's been along time for me since I've played, so I enjoyed it and to get through 90 minutes was a big bonus.
"I'm desperate to get back involved. I haven't started a game this season and I'm just raring to go."
Speaking about Villa's severe lack of form in previous weeks, Hendrie added, "It's just a matter of all of us getting together and giving it a good push. As soon as you start winning, you get back into the right mode again. That's what we're desperate for at the moment."
