Quinton Fortune became Sam Allardyce's third signing of the 2006 close season after impressing whilst on trial with the club following his release from local rivals Manchester United.

He came on the club's pre-season training tour of Switzerland and was also involved in the friendly matches against Burnley and Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers.

Former team mate Roy Keane once described him as the best ever player he had trained with and this accolade was shared by the Bolton manager Allardyce when welcoming the South African to the Reebok Stadium on a full time basis.

Since coming to England in 1999, it hasn't all been plain sailing for Fortune as he has suffered considerable spells on the sidelines with injury but it is hoped that he will able to make a fresh start during his initial one year stay with the Wanderers.

Prior to his spell at Old Trafford with United, the 29-year old played in Spain for the likes of Real Mallorca and Athletico Madrid but it was his performances alongside ex-Wanderer Mark Fish at international level which persuaded Sir Alex Ferguson to bring him to England.

His versatiliy and strength in the tackle is one of his biggest attributes. So far in his career he has played wide left, central midfield and at left back.
