A Bolton loan swoop for Manchester United striker Alan Smith could be in the offing if Sunday newspaper reports are to be beleived.

The Sunday People claims that Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce aims to speak to United counterpart Sir Alex Ferguson in an attempt to lure Smith to the Reebok Stadium on a temporary basis.

Smith is currently looking for regular first team football having made a successful comeback from a broken leg and a short term move away from Old Trafford at a good standard of football could suit all parties.

However United have been reluctant to loan any players out as Cardiff City and Leeds United where both thwarted in their attempts to lure Smith to the Championship last month.

Meanwhile the same paper claims that Wanderers midfielder Idan Tal is a target for Beiter Jerusalem and the News of the World suggests that Aston Villa, Manchester City and Glasgow Rangers aim to make a last ditch bid to get striker Kevin Davies but in light of the front man commiting his future to Bolton the reports seem to have little substance.
