New Deal In Offing For Nolan

Bolton Wanderers captain Kevin Nolan is set to sign an extension to his contract with the club within the next couple of weeks.

Nolan, who scored Bolton's matchwinner in their 2-1 win over Fulham yesterday, revealed that he is close to extending his stay at the Reebok Stadium beyond his current contract which expires in 2009.

A two year contract is said to be ready and waiting for the midfielder who is now in his seventh season as a regular member of the Wanderers squad. Speaking to the Bolton News, Nolan was more than happy to play down his manager's recent comments about a move elsewhere.

"If you look around, there are not many teams that are better than Bolton Wanderers in the Premiership. I'm not planning on leaving. I'm negotiating a contract and, hopefully, that will be done in the next couple of weeks."

"So I'm here for the long haul and looking forward to many more successful years with Bolton and few trophies, maybe. I've got a couple of years after this one and I'm looking to extend it for another couple."

The 24-year old made his 200th Premiership appearance for the Trotters over the weekend and is currently the third longest serving player at the club behind Jussi Jaaskelainen and Ricardo Gardner.
