Bolton Wanderers reserve team shared out a rather eventful goalless draw with Newcastle United at Kingston Park earlier on this evening.

Coach Jimmy Phillips had the luxury of naming a number of first team squad members in his line up against the Magpies with the likes of Idan Tal, Andranik, Ricardo Vaz-Te, Ian Walker and David Thompson all starting the match in the North East.

However, neither side could draw first blood but it wasn't for the want of trying as Newcastle trialist Lee Kerr had a first half opportunity to open the scoring after linking up well with Albert Luque.

Tal had the best opportunity for Bolton on the stroke of half time but the former Everton midfielder saw his shot scrambled to safety by United's young defender Callum Morris.

Ricardo Vaz-Te and Blazej Augustyn missed good chances to put the Wanderers in front in the second half, whilst Newcastle substitute Andrew Carroll was also guilty of a missed opportunity at the other end when missing a header.

Trialist Kerr could have won the game for Newcastle late on but Bolton had goalkeeper Ian Walker to thank for denying the Whitley Bay striker a chance to steal the show.
