Howarth Joins Carlisle On Loan

Goalkeeper Chris Howarth has joined League One side Carlisle United on loan for four weeks to provide cover for regular custodian Kieran Westwood.

The 20-year old has had previous spells out on loan with Stockport County and Oldham Athletic and this latest move sees him reunited with former Wanderers coach Neil McDonald and striker Johann Smith, also on loan to the Cumbrians from Bolton until the summer.

Carlisle needed reinforcements in the goalkeeping department as former Blackburn trainee Anthony Williams recently completed the move to Wrexham and United boss McDonald expects Howarth to provide competition over the next few weeks.

"He's a good lad with a good presence, and we're pleased to have him here with us for the next month as the games continue to come thick and fast."

Howarth is yet to make his Bolton debut, although he did appear a few times for Oldham during the early part of this season.
