Thompson Wants To Stay With Wanderers

Midfielder David Thompson is hopeful of persuading Bolton manager Sam Allardyce that he is worthy of a new contract for next season.

The 29-year old joined the Wanderers from Portsmouth in the January transfer window and he has played a part in four out of the last six Premiership matches, including a first Bolton start in the 3-1 win against his old club Wigan Athletic.

Thompson admits that he wasn't at full fitness when he first came to the Reebok Stadium three months ago, but now he feels back on top form and ready to help the club into Europe in the final four matches of his short term deal.

"I probably need to play more games to convince him I am worthy of a contract but I am hopeful because it is a club I would like to stay at. They are a good set of lads and it is a club going in the right direction, and I would love to be a part of it next season if we qualify for Europe." said the one time Liverpool midfielder to Wanderers TV

"To be honest I didn't realise that I was so off the pace. I was carrying a bit of excess weight and I was probably not as fit as I should have been. But I worked on it and lost weight and I feel like I am in a position where I can make an impact on the team now. I know there are only four games to go but they are four massive games which will have a big impact on what we do next season."

Since his arrival back in the North West, Thompson has added a cutting edge to the Bolton midfield options and this has already made him a target for the top flight referees.
