SAMMY TAKES ON WANDERERS ROLE

Bolton Wanderers have moved quickly to replace the departing Sam Allardyce by appointing his assistant Sammy Lee to the role of manager.

The 48-year old former Liverpool and England midfielder Lee becomes the Wanderers 17th post-war manager and will take charge for the final two games of the season against West Ham United and Aston Villa and beyond.

Lee, joined Bolton as assistant to Allardyce two years ago following a spell working with the Football Association and the England national team under Sven Goran Eriksson.

During his playing career, Lee was an important part of the Liverpool midfield of the late 1970's and early 1980's and helped the Reds to successive league titles and European Cup wins.

Lee also played for Queens Park Rangers, Spanish side Osasuna and Southampton as well as an injury hit 18-month spell with Bolton during Phil Neal's era as the manager.

It is not yet known whether the likes of Ricky Sbragia and Jimmy Phillips will stay at Bolton as Lee has yet to decide on the people who will be assisting him at the club.
