Evans Tipped For Bolton Role - Report

Former Liverpool manager Roy Evans could be on his way to Bolton Wanderers this summer as part of Sammy Lee's backroom shake up...

The 58-year old was highly tipped to get the Wanderers top job back in September 1999 when Colin Todd handed in his resignation as manager due to a disagreement with the clubs board over the sale of Per Frandsen to Blackburn Rovers.

However, the post was eventually filled by an ex-Bolton favourite Sam Allardyce, who departed the club at the weekend after nearly eight successful years at the helm.

Now, in an extrordinary turn of events, the Daily Mail reports that Evans is being lined up to join the staff at the Reebok Stadium, possibly to fill to role of Lee's next in command.

Evans was manager of Liverpool when they defeated Bolton in the 1995 Coca Cola Cup Final and he has also managed Swindon Town as well as spending time on the backroom staff of Fulham and Wrexham.

He is currently the Welsh national team's assistant manager having been appointed to the role by his former Liverpool team mate John Toshack at the start of the 2004-2005 season.

Bolton are yet to comment on who will be assisting Lee, but the appointment of Gary Speed as player/coach is already an indication that the new manager is wanting to make his own mark on the club.
