The Wanderers beat off fierce competition from Premiership rivals Portsmouth and Newcastle United to land Bordeaux defender Gerald Cid on a four year contract in March 2007.
Centre half Cid had been with Bordeaux since he was 13 years of age and had developed his football education whilst at the Stade Chaban Delmas. He made his first team debut for them against Le Mans in March 2004 and also had a season out on loan with FC Istres to replace the Bolton bound Abdoulaye Faye.
After just under 50 appearances with Bordeaux, Cid decided that it was time to make the move to England where he will begin life as a Bolton player at the start of the 2007-2008 season.
