Tranmere Duo Miss Out On Bolton Reunion

Jason McAteer and Gavin Ward will not be lining up against the Wanderers in July after being told that their Tranmere Rovers contracts would not be renewed in the summer by Rovers manager Ronnie Moore.

Both had been due to face Bolton at Prenton Park during the close season but their current deals will not be extended by the Wirrall club meaning player-coach McAteer may now look for his first role in football management.

Birmingham-born Ward will review his options over the coming months and hope to prolong his 18-year playing career in the Coca-Cola leagues for at least another season.

McAteer made over 100 appearances for Bolton between 1992 and 1995 before being sold to Liverpool for a club record £4.5 million in September 1995, whilst Ward played understudy to Jussi Jaaskelainen and Keith Branagan during his three year stint at Bolton which ended in March 1999.
