Burley Praises Bolton New Boy

Southampton manager George Burley was obviously disappointed at not being able to lure Liverpool midfielder Danny Guthrie back to the St Mary's Stadium for the new season but he feels the England youth international will progress even further during his stint with Bolton Wanderers.

Guthrie had a ten game loan spell at Southampton towards the end of last season as they just missed out on Play Off glory and former Ipswich and Derby cheif Burley was keen to take up another loan option on the energetic playmaker.

However, Wanderers manager Sammy Lee used his Liverpool contacts to good effect to lure the 20-year old across the North West for the whole of the 2007-2008 campaign.

Burley praised the character of Guthrie and tipped him for future success at the Reebok Stadium.

"Danny did very well for us and it just shows that he improved with us and he now has a chance in the Premiership. He is a smashing lad and I am pleased for him. I am sure he will do well at Bolton" said Burley to Southampton's official site

Guthrie will sign the relevant paperwork to move to Bolton on his return from holiday.
