Ex-Wanderer Halford Dies

It has been announced today that former Bolton Wanderers outside left David Halford has sadly passed away at the grand old age of 91 years old.

Halford was born in Croxley Green on 19th October 1915 and was to win England schoolboy honours during the early part of his footballing career before signing up with amateur side Rowntrees and then First Division side Derby County.

He made just half a dozen appearances for the Rams due to the presence of Daly Duncan and in June 1936 the Bolton manager Charles Foweraker took him to Burnden Park to compete with Jack Rimmer.

The first three games of the 1936-37 season saw him handed the number 11 shirt but the return of Rimmer and the signing of Scotsman Alf Anderson restricted his Bolton career.

He made just three more appearances for the club scoring in the 3-2 defeat against Everton at Goodison Park before being allowed to transfer to Oldham Athletic where he undoubtedly had his best spell.
