Davies Keen To Keep Standards High

There have been many changes to the Bolton Wanderers backroom staff since Sammy Lee took over as team manager at the end of April but striker Kevin Davies beleives that the objectives should still be the same going into the new season.

Despite the resignation of long serving manager Sam Allardyce four months ago there has been minimal disruption to the club due to the appointment of tried and trusted coach Sammy Lee and Davies sees no reason why the club cannot continue their success under the new regime.

Speaking to the Bolton News the former Southampton forward says constant European qualification and a possible trophy is the ultimate aim for the team in the times that await.

"We've set our standards and we want to keep building on that" said the 30-year old who is now in his fifth season as a Wanderers regular.

"We still want to win something. All the lads are the same. We want to get to a final - winning a major trophy would be great - and finish high enough to qualify for Europe again next season".

"With the squad we already had, the players we've brought in and the manager and staff we've got I think we can do that"

Davies has been around long enough to know that the new season will require the same amount of hard work as last season but it is a challenge that he is looking forward to.

"We know we've got a difficult season ahead of us, playing in Europe as well, but we're all looking forward to it, this is what we worked so hard for last season".

Saturday's opener against Newcastle United is likely to see Davies lead the Bolton attack alongside record signing Nicolas Anelka.
