Ex-Wanderer Candela Announces Retirement

French World Cup winner and former Bolton Wanderers defender Vincent Candela has announced his retirement from football after ending a short spell with Italian side Messina Peloro.

The 33-year old signed for the Wanderers in January 2005 and made ten league appearances for the club as they qualified for Europe for the first time in their history.

Earlier in his career he had won a World Cup winners medal in 1998 alongside Bolton favourite Youri Djorkaeff and he also won the Italian Serie A championship with Roma, from whom he joined the Wanderers.

Throughout his career Candela made over 400 club appearances when turning out for the likes of Toulouse, Guingamp, Roma, Bolton, Udinese, Siena and Messina with his most successful spell being at Roma between 1997 and 2005.
