A Craig Mahon double and further goals from David Cotterill and Rachid Bouaouzan saw Bolton Wanderers reserves slump to their heaviest defeat of the season so far as a marginally more experienced Wigan Athletic side ran riot at the County Ground last night.

Republic of Ireland youth striker Mahon started and finished the scoring for the Latics, with his first coming three minutes before half time when he latched onto a Antonio Valencia knock down to fire the ball past Adam Bogdan in the Wanderers goal.

Welsh winger Cotterill doubled the lead for the visitors shortly after the break when cutting inside and firing in a superb individual goal which Bolton had no answer to.

Recent signing Rachid Bouaouzan, who claimed Bolton where interested in his services prior to moving to the Latics, netted the third goal with a clinical finish from the edge of the area.

Mahon completed the win with a header later on in the game and Bolton where left to rue two missed opportunities by England youth international Temitope Obadeyi, with the young striker hitting the post late on in what was arguably the hosts best chance.
