Bolton Wanderers reserve team suffered their third heavy defeat in a month when going down 3-0 to a more experienced Sunderland side at the Welfare Stadium in Hetton last night with all the goals coming in the second half.

Last week Jimmy Phillips side had lost 4-0 at home to local rivals Wigan Athletic and results fared no better when the side made the journey up to the North East.

The likes of Darren Ward, David Connolly, Ian Harte and Greg Halford all starred for the Black Cats and it was former Leeds United man Harte who had a large hand in the night's proceedings.

Harte's Republic of Ireland team mate Roy O'Donovan had given the home side the lead when latching onto a pass from Halford and it was soon 2-0 when David Dowson was felled in the penalty area.

One thing you don't need when the luck is against you is to come up against a dead ball expert and unfortunately for Bolton it was Harte who made no mistake from the spot.

On the stroke of full time the game was sealed when substitutes Jack Colback and Michael Liddle combined for the latter to head home.
