A young Bolton Wanderers reserve side gave a good account of themselves when facing Everton in Leyland earlier this evening but they could not prevent striker Lukas Jutkiewicz from giving the Merseysiders all three points.

Former Swindon Town man Jutkiewicz struck shortly after the hour with the games all important goal but Wanderers could have had a share of the spoils had they converted the chances which came their way.

Wing back James Sinclair linked up well with midfielder Chris Basham early on but the Bolton defender found that Everton's John Ruddy was in top form in the visitors goal.

Zoltan Harsanyi and David Gbermie both missed chances to give Bolton the lead ahead of the interval and this proved costly as Everton upped the ante at the start of the second half.

The Wanderers Hungarian goalkeeper Adam Bogdan did well to keep out an effort from Aidan Downes and former Inter Milan winger Andy Van Der Meyde should have scored for Everton with the follow up.

Downes set up the games only goal when his header presented Jutkiewicz with a clear path on goal and the teenager made no mistake when striking the ball past Bogdan.

Substitutes Temitope Obadeyi and Kevin Wolze should have given Bolton a share of the points but a collection of good goalkeeping and wasteful shooting meant Everton held on.
