Steinsson Ready For Wanderers Switch

Icelandic international Gretar Steinsson seems more than likely to complete a £3 million move to Bolton Wanderers from Dutch club AZ Alkmaar this week and it is a case of second time lucky for the 26-year old full back.

Back in 2003 the previous Bolton manager Sam Allardyce passed up on the chance to sign Steinsson from IA Akranes after a trial, but now current chief Gary Megson is ready to complete a deal for the player after a recommendation from Wanderers legend Gudni Bergsson.

Steinsson, who plays at right back but is equally adapt across the back four, was left out of Alkmaar's squad for last weekend's heavy defeat against Ajax amid rumours he was moving to England and this has now been confirmed by the player himself.

"This is a great opportunity,Five years ago I came here on trial, but I was not good enough; now it seems I am. It is a wonderful club where many Icelanders have played." said Steinsson to de Telegraaf

As mentioned, Steinsson will become the latest in a long line of Icelanders who have represented Bolton during their careers. International team mate Heidar Helguson is currently on the Trotters books, the aforementioned Bergsson played nearly 300 games for the club between 1995 and 2003 whilst Arnar Gunnlaugsson and Eidur Gudjohnsen played at the Reebok Stadium in the late 1990's.
