Cid Questions Bolton Methods

French central defender Gerald Cid is relieved to have moved back to his homeland with OCG Nice after spending an unhappy six months on the books of Bolton Wanderers earlier this season.

Cid signed for Bolton on a four year contract last summer from Bordeaux but things did not work out for the 24-year old during his time in the Premier League.

He fell out of favour with previous manager Sammy Lee after making an indifferent start to his Wanderers career and current Bolton boss Gary Megson only used him in the cup games.

Speaking to L'Equipe the player says he was disappointed to have left the Reebok Stadium after such a short space of time, and also questioned the training methods in comparison to what he had been used to at his previous clubs.

"Bolton remains a disappointment, Otherwise I would not have decided to leave. Some people have told me that I was mad to leave, but I could not see myself remaining on the bench or playing on the left for several more months. As soon as I knew the door was open to go I did not need to give it much thought".

Despite Bolton's methods being praised far and wide in recent times, Cid was not happy with the training drills which where put into practice during the days prior to a game.

"I feel as though I worked less during training sessions than I ever did in France. We kept all of our energy for the matches. We would have a long warm-up, small games, but often every day was the same. To me training sessions are important if you want to improve, and that was not going to happen." he added

Cid made his Nice debut in their 1-0 win over Nancy at the Municipal du Rey last weekend.
