Moore Defends Ex-Villa Collegue Cahill

Aston Villa striker Luke Moore has defended his former team mate Gary Cahill after the Bolton centre half was criticised by Birmingham City for choosing a move to the Wanderers ahead of a switch to St Andrews in the January transfer window. .

Blues chairman David Gold was openly critical towards the defender and called him selfish because the Midlands club didn't have enough time to pursue other targets.

However Moore, who came through the youth ranks with Cahill at Villa and who is currently on loan at West Bromwich Albion, says that the player didn't show any disrespect and just wanted a clean break away from the Midlands.

"With Gary Cahill, a lot of clubs wanted him and he was unlucky not to get his chance at Villa, I was in the same situation as him." said Moore to the Sunday Mercury

"We both felt we needed to change. Gary wanted a complete change from Birmingham, and I don't think he was disrespectful when he turned down Blues."

Cahill has proved to be a good investment for the Wanderers and has performed well in his seven games for the club so far despite their precarious Premier League position.
