Bolton Wanderers reserves continued their improvement in form with a 2-2 draw against Newcastle United earlier this evening but it could have been so much more for Jimmy Phillips side had they not conceded two silly goals late on.

A draw against Middlesbrough and a win against Sunderland recently gave the Wanderers second string something to build on in what was their final fixture at the County Ground this season.

Wanderers striker Johann Smith put the Magpies defenders under countless pressure all evening and the hosts dominance finally told soonafter when defender David Gbemie netted a rare goal from close range.

Smith, Robert Sissons and Leslie Thompson could have increased Bolton's lead but for a mixture good goalkeeping by Fraser Forster and some inaccurate shooting.

Thompson made amends in the 79th minute when converting what was thought to be the winner after a shot from German youngster Kevin Wolze had come back off the woodwork.

The experienced Ameobi pulled one back with a header from a Mark Doninger free kick and former Wanderers trialist Wesley Ngo-Baheng came off the bench to secure the Toon Army a share of the spoils in injury time.
