Bolton look to have beaten off competition from clubs in Germany and the Far East to land the experienced Mexican striker Jared Borgetti from Pachuca.
The 31-year old goalgetter will become the first Mexican player to play in the English Premiership, as he signs an agreement which will eventually be worth around £900,000 to the South Americans.
Borgetti will move to Bolton once he has finished his commitments for his country in the Gold Cup. His success in the tournament was undoubtedly one of the main reasons as to why the Wanderers firmed up their interest.
Pachuca president Jesus Martinez Patino says that a deal has been agreed between the two clubs for the services of Borgetti.
"I can confirm that Borgetti will be sold to Bolton, The clubs have reached an agreement. Pachuca will receive more than £900,000. The only thing remaining is the player to end his participation with the national team at the Gold Cup. Then he will travel to England to sign his contract."
Patino revealed that the player had better offers put to him, but in the end a move to England proved to be the deciding factor for Borgetti who had spent the majority of his career in the Mexican league, mostly with Santa Laguna.
Patino added that the transfer is historic for Mexican football, and wished the player every success during his spell in the Premiership.
"We made a big effort for the player because we had better offers from other countries, but the player decided he wanted to play in the Premier League,"
"He considers The Premiership the most important league in the world. We are very happy and proud because this is an historical transfer for Mexican football.
"A century ago the English came to Pachuca to start football in Mexico and now Pachuca is the first Mexican team to transfer a player to England."
