Sam Allardyce's selection problems got worse over the weekend after it was confirmed that Nicky Hunt suffered a cracked fibula during Bolton's 1-0 win over Portsmouth.

The England U-21 right back withdrew from the action in the closing stages against Pompey and x-rays have since shown up a fracture which is expected to keep the 22-year old out of action for a month.

Hunt's injury is yet another devastating blow to Wanderers boss Allardyce who has already seen Ivan Campo on the sitting on the sidelines with a broken foot and the likes of Radhi Jaidi, Abdoulaye Faye and Fabrice Fernandes have all suffered knocks in recent weeks.

Midfielder Gary Speed (back) is doubtful for Thursday's second leg against Lokomotiv Plovdiv in Bulgaria meaning that reserves captain Joey O'Brien may once again get a chance to shine.
