Bolton Wanderers have announced their first signing of the winter transfer window after former Blackburn Rovers striker Matt Jansen signed a contract until the end of the season

The 28-year old was released on a Free Transfer by Rovers earlier on this week and Trotters manager Sam Allardyce moved quickly to bring the former England international to the Reebok Stadium after a number of Premiership clubs showed an interest.

Jansen shot to prominence as a teenager with hometown club Carlisle United in 1996 and has since starred in the top flight for Crystal Palace and Blackburn, the latter with whom he spent six years.

His only league start for Rovers this season ironically came at the Reebok Stadium back in September but Bolton manager Allardyce is hopeful of rekindling Jansen's once promising career.

"Matt has great potential, even though he hasn't been involved with Blackburn of late and I do believe he has the right qualities to resurrect his career here at the Reebok.

"I am looking forward to working with him between now and the end of the season and I hope he can recapture the form that made him one of England's best strikers a couple of seasons ago"

Jansen will make a swift return to Ewood Park as he has been named in the Bolton squad to take on Rovers in tommorow afternoon's televised Lancashire derby.

Walking Down The Manny Road wishes Matt all the best during his time with Wanderers
