Brown Heads Out Of Derby

Former Bolton assistant manager Phil Brown has been sacked as manager of Championship side Derby County after just seven months in charge.

The 46-year old took over the Rams hotseat in July of last year as the successor to George Burley but results on the pitch at Pride Park did not meet initial expectations as the Midlands club stared relegation to League One in the face.

A statement by Derby County read:

"At a meeting between Phil Brown and the Derby County chairman [John Sleightholme] on Monday evening it was decided that Phil would leave the club.

"We would like to thank Phil for the time and effort he has given to the job and wish him well for the future."

"There will be an announcement on Tuesday regarding an interim management team that will be in place from this point forward until a new appointment is made."

Former Wanderers captain Brown was second in command at Bolton between 1996 and 2005 and worked under the management of both Colin Todd and Sam Allardyce before deciding to go it alone.
