Bolton In Fresh American Link

Sam Allardyce's presence at the United States international match last week raised questions as to who the Bolton manager was watching.

Initially, the name of Kansas City Wizards striker Josh Wolff was mentioned but now the name of right wing back Steve Cherundolo is being linked with a summer move to the Reebok Stadium.

The 27-year old has represented German Bundesliga club Hannover 96 for the last six years and is a regular in Bruce Arena's American squad having gained over 30 caps since his debut for the national side against Ricardo Gardner's Jamaica in 1999.

Cherundolo was staying silent on the speculation linking him with a move to the Premiership but stressed that he hoped for the situation to be sorted over the next few weeks in time for the World Cup.

"The whole matter will be decided within the next three to four weeks as I want to have things settled before the World Cup," Cherundolo told Kicker Magazine

The one time USA youth captain is contracted to Hannover for two more years but a fee of around £1.8 million could tempt them to part with one of their star performers.

At his best Cherundolo likes to go forward and has a plethora of pace at his disposal.
