Ferrari signs on a season long loan

Everton have completed the signing of Roma centre back Matteo Ferrari on a season long loan with the option to buy him at the end of the season for £3.7m.

Ferrari, who is 25, was part of the Italian squad for Euro 2004 after a wonderful season for Parma. It resulted in a move to Roma but after an unsuccesful season in the Italian capital Ferrari has decided on a fresh start and opted to come to Merseyside.

Ferrari said, 'I am very glad to be here because Everton showed so much confidence in me and so that is why i am happy to be here.'

Ferrari will give a much needed boost to Everton's defence with injuries to Per Kroldrup, Pistone and Naysmith. With Jospeh Yobo going to the African nations in January, Ferrari could well prove a vital signing for David Moyes and Everton.
