After Newcastle United won the Michael Owen Cup and begin the victory celebrations, complete with open-top bus tour through the city and life-size replica taking place in the trophy cabinet at St James' Park, David Moyes has turned his attentions back to Robbie Keane it, it would seem.

As he spoke about his step down to Newcastle, Owen spoke of how David Moyes tried to get him to Goodison at the last minute.

"David Moyes rang to see if there was a chance of getting me to Goodison Park and to wish me luck if not," he said. "I think he must have known that my dad was briefly an Everton player and I used to follow them as a boy."

Moyes faces a frantic end to the summer transfer window, which has seen him spend over £15m on fees alone, and also on his wishlist are Chelsea's Carlton Cole, Porto's Benni McCarthy, and Preston's Dave Nugent, but Keane is the only striker to have proven himself on a regular basis in the Premiership, despite Cole having good seasons out on loan from Chelsea.
