Nugent Signing from PNE

In an amazing switch, or perhaps just a lack of communication, the Echo is now claiming that Preston's Dave Nugent is top of David Moyes' imaginary wishlist, and not Robbie Keane. Do Dave Prentice and Len Capeling not talk to each other?

Everton last week had a £850k bid for Nugent rejected, but with the deadline for new transfers less than 12 hours away, Moyes is believed to be desperate to sign any of a number of strikers to try and solve Everton's goalscoring problems.

Born and bred in Huyton, Nugent is a lifelong Blue, and was recently presented with a signed Duncan Ferguson shirt by David Moyes which has taken pride of place in the house he still shares with his parents.

A proven Championship striker, Nugent was in blistering form at the weekend as Preston demolished Joe Royle's Ipswich, scoring 2 goals in the process, the second of which after a weaving run through the Ipswich defense.

He would no doubt make a welcome addition to the squad, but whether David Moyes is prepared to break the bank for a striker who has never kicked a ball in the Premiership is another question.
