Heidfeld & Kubica start testing at Barcelona

Some three weeks after the 2007 Formula One season finale, Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica have commenced a three-day test programme in Barcelona. Both BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers took to the track at the "Circuit de Catalunya", using the new standard ECU.

Day one – Tuesday

Fastest lap overall: Michael Schumacher, Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro, 1:21,922 min Circuit distance: 4.655 km

Robert Kubica Chassis / engine: BMW Sauber F1.07-06 / BMW P86/7 V8

Test kilometres today: 270 km (58 laps) Fastest lap: 1:22.883 min

Nick Heidfeld Chassis / engine: BMW Sauber F1.07-04 / BMW P86/7 V8

Test kilometres today: 349 km (75 laps) Fastest lap: 1:23.671 min

Programme: During the three-day Barcelona test the BMW Sauber F1 Team is focusing on testing the new standard ECU which will be mandatory in all F1 cars in 2008. This includes driving without traction control, set-up work and system programming. Apart from some teething problems with the new electronics and several red flags, it was a productive day.

What comes next: Robert and Nick will continue to drive on Wednesday and Thursday and work together with the engineers on gaining experience with the standard ECU.
