Kubica makes History...and BMW Sauber thanks him!

It took Robert Kubica just 1:33.096 minutes to add another chapter to the BMW Sauber F1 Team's success story: in Bahrain, the Pole celebrated the team's maiden pole position. Bahrain seems to be a good venue for the BMW Sauber F1 Team. .

 On 12th March 2006, the "Bahrain International Circuit" staged the maiden Formula One race of the Munich and Hinwil based squad. Exactly two years and 24 days later, Robert secured the BMW Sauber F1 Team's maiden pole position at the same circuit.

Mario Theissen insisted on personally congratulating Robert on this achievement, via the pit radio. "Fantastic, you have secured the maiden pole position for our team," beamed the BMW Motorsport Director. The young driver's amazingly relaxed response to the great news from the pit-lane: "Okay."

"I quickly realised that the lap had been really good," said Robert in the press conference following the qualifying session. For the first time, the 23-year old had the chance of sitting in the middle of the three fastest drivers. "I'm absolutely delighted," said the BMW Sauber F1 Team driver, who also gave Poland its maiden Formula One pole position in Bahrain.

Nick Heidfeld also was inspired by the achievement of his team-mate. "Obviously, I would have loved to be the one to secure the BMW Sauber F1 Team's maiden pole position," he admitted. "But I'm happy for Robert and for the entire team. It's just fantastic!"
