Brazil GP: BMW drivers never rest: 97 laps in FP2

In the second free practice session of the Brazilian Grand Prix weekend, Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld were clearly the busiest drivers of the entire field. Over the course of the session, the BMW Sauber F1 Team pairing completed an amazing total of 97 laps.

As had been the case in the morning, the BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers once again had to cope with conditions that were anything but usual for the Brazilian spring: temperatures of 17 degrees Celsius, overcast skies and a slight rain shower in the middle of the session.

The major part of the second free practice session, however, was held in dry conditions, with Nick and Robert both carrying out the most excessive preparation programme of the year. Both drivers completed several stints on each tyre compound and both set their personal fastest lap times on the softer of the two compounds available.

Robert completed a total of 48 laps. On his 33rd, he set his personal best time of 1:12.971 minutes to finish 12th on the time sheets. Nick completed one lap more than his team-mate (49) and posted his fastest lap earlier than Robert. On his 14th lap, the German crossed the line in 1:13:038 minutes, thus being just 67-hundredths of a second slower than Robert and finishing 13th.

In tomorrow's third free practice session, the BMW Sauber F1 Team will work hard to optimise the BMW Sauber F1.08's set up and offer Robert and Nick the chance of securing another fine result in the final round of the 2008 season.
