Peugeot denies F1 entry rumours

Today a Peugeot spokeswoman has denied the idea of Peugeot entering F1 next year by buying HondaF1.That said, nothing was said about the other brand of the PSA group, Citroën, although it's highly unlikely that the Citroën-brand would enter F1. However the possibility of BMW supplying engines to the replacement of HondaF1 remains open.

A Peugeot spokeswoman told to autosport: "The information is wrong, we will continue in sportscars next year, but we don't yet know how many races we will do or in what championship. We will announce everything in January."

It is clear that with the current crisis and envirommental issue, car manufacturers are not that keen to join F1, especially with most of them, including PSA, cutting jobs and reducing factory activity. Le Mans racing seems to be more profitable for Peugeot, at least now, as it requieres a smaller investment and allows thm em to show their top diesel technology to the public.

All in all, it will be interesting to know wether it will be Ferrari or BMW who supplies the new team with engines, and who of the interested parties will finally buy the Brackley-based team. 

Although it is more likely that it will be Ferrari, as they already have the support staff for engine supplying, the BMW option cannot be totally discarded yet. We hear too that Honda could still supply engines for 2009 if it's necesary to ease the team sale, but they would prefer not to need to continue supplying.
