BMW to debut lightened chasis in Barcelona

As we had already revealed and discussed in our forum for over one week, BMW Sauber is set to introduce an updated chasis for the Spanish GP, Mario Theissen confirmed to Autosport.

The aim is to slim both the chasis and the KERS package to allow Kubica to use the recovery energy device, as previously due to weight issues, he couldn't install it without seriously reducing the amount of ballast, hence hampering the optimal weight distribution of his car, and it's negative effects on the tyre management.

"We are aiming to prepare the cars for KERS with him (Kubica)," told Theissen to autosport. "That includes development on the KERS side as well as the car side.

Kubica will be happy to hear that (if he hasn't already!), as he expressed concerns, claiming that KERS was indeed an advantage, with his lighter teammate Heidfeld benefiting from it.

As well, it is expected that together with this updated chasis, BMW Sauber will implement a double decker diffuser (though not a definitive version) ...if they are not deemed illegal tomorrow, in the appeal courthouse.
