Kubica finally confirmed at Renault!

Robert "forgets" to mention here why he didn't sign with Renault for 2006: he received a bad treatment by the team during the negotiations after the test, especially by Briatore. It was Peter Sauber who trusted and rescued him, securing for him a strong start into F1.

Best of all luck for Robert for 2010 (he will need it, and so will Sauber/Qadbak), and hope he does great. I'll still be following, although I feel part of that enthusiasm may be gone.

PS: The question is, for how long is the contract? My bet is 1 fixed year, and then options depending on performance, and seats available elsewhere.

München/Hinwil, 07. Oktober 2009. Next season Robert Kubica will be driving for Renault’s Formula One team. The 24 year old Pole and the BMW Sauber F1 Team have agreed on an early termination of their contract.

BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen said: "Robert played an important role for us and certainly we did the same for him. He joined us in 2006 as a test driver with no Formula One experience, and then we promoted him to be one of our team drivers during that season. He never let us down and, with our first pole position in 2008 in Bahrain and first victory the same year in Canada, he set milestones in the history of our team. We are grateful for his strong and constant performances and wish him all the best for his future. "

Kubica himself commented: "I'm very thankful to those responsible in the BMW Sauber F1 Team for giving me the chance to get a Formula One cockpit. I think I justified the belief in me by delivering good results. In 2008 I managed to get the first pole position in Bahrain and the first win in Canada. Both will remain unforgettable moments for me. For 2010 I will have a new challenge. I wish everybody I worked with at the BMW Sauber F1 Team all the best for the future. I'm sure in the future our paths will cross in Formula One."

Kubica drove his first Formula One race on the 6th August 2006 in Budapest. He competed in 55 Grand Prix for the BMW Sauber F1 Team, during which he achieved eight podium finishes and collected 129 championship points.

The team that will succeed the current BMW Sauber F1 Team will announce its driver line-up at a later stage.

This what I wanted pre crashgate.

Now Renault is different team...

I think there are people there who did Benneton/Renault race and championship winner. Williams is struglling to build the convincingly good chassis since 2003 (michelin tyre gate aside). Toyota is corporate machine that makes BMW look like smal flower shop.

Sauber - boy, he owes a lot to the guys there, but in current sitiation it was last choice. The team does not even have place on the grid

So yes, Renault is probably best option.

The first downside for Robert - much worse company car to drive to work.

Downside to his fans - damned new merchandise to spend money on, and considering last years way less cool colorwise than BMW

Well, I wished he had better options but what happened just happened. At last he's not a part of BMW F1 buisness project anymore, that was main aim for him - in Renault at least you know F1 is not only marketing tool for them.

As I said in the other thread, maybe his new team mate will end up being Jacques the Villeneuve from Monn-ree-al.

Sessions, there are still 2 races left for us RK fans here so you won't get rid of us so soon. Now I'm off for lunch - I think I'll have some Escargots Bourguignon,Crépe au Fromage de Chévre and perhaps a couple glasses of a nice Bordeaux.

And perhaps things will come full circle here and you will get Jacques the Villeneuve, but from Monaco.

I am not going anywhere . True RK fans will always remember that this is the team that - without any financial and comercial help - gave him a chance and supported him. I'm going to - and hope that will have possibility to - support Sauber still.

Please don't get me wrong, I'm not sending any of RK's followers off to soon. I'll miss all of you and I myself don't have a clue where or whom I will be following. I'm in good shape because I'm a driver follower.
My favourites are kind of as follows. #1 JV then Kimi, Nick, Button, Nico, RK, and Vettel. The others are all about equally liked with no priority in their order.

Teams, It doesn't make much difference.

I feel sad a bit. I think it was high time for Robert to move somewhere else but on the other hand I like all BMW Sauber guys: Mario, Nick, Willy, weird PR stunts, "we have to analyse the data" and so on. Its sad it ended this way.

I have always been fan of Sauber 'no bull*hit' way of doing F1 business.

I have been loyal and thanful for BMW for giving Kubica break into F1.

I have always felt sorry that his race seat had to come at expense of Jacques Villeneuve, the driver I supported since he joined in 1996 ( as I hoped he was the right talent to show MS the right place).

So don't get relaxed. I will still be around with my "drunken" posts, emotional judgements, passionate statements.

I'm not going either, but we ought to do something about Raid Phoenix. He's changed his name too many times, and is now acting like one of us dirty old men posting pictures of young damsels. Go figure ?
I'll jump from one site to another keeping this home base if they secure a spot.
Real chances on JV finding a seat are slim; his site and him say it's 50/50. I hope he does land one, because of his exiting a wee bit too young and his experience in every area a team could use. His expertise would especially compliment no fuel stops and feed back to engineers.
Not to mention his nose to find a way to the front.
If by strange consequence he would team mate Robert,I'm sure he be super motivated to show he was as good as his replacement.
With as much that has happened in the past, I still think they might make a very strong offering.
They are both loners and I doubt at this time in JV's career he will cause trouble anywhere he goes. He just wants to race and satisfy himself by performing well.

Seriously, my point was that photo, in the context of this thread, with BMW involved in the ad, can be interpreted in different ways. And no Bogs, I don't think she is that young. But this campaign had to be retired early due to sexist concerns against women.
