FIA confirms Sauber in, Stefan left out

March 3 2010

The FIA has just issued the list of the entrants for the 2010 championship. No surprises, though: BMW Sauber is on the list, USF1 is dropped, while StefanGP have not joined in.

 FIA said:

"The USF1 Team have indicated that they will not be in a position to participate in the 2010 FIA Formula One World Championship. Having considered the various options, the FIA confirms that it is not possible for a replacement team to be entered for the Championship at this late stage.

In the coming days the FIA will announce details of a new selection process to identify candidates to fill any vacancies existing at the start of the 2011 season."

I'm still perplexed as to why Sauber is still entered as BMW Sauber. There was the ability (as with Campos) to change the name, but still it didn't happen, and there has not been any real explanation as to why it is still BMW Sauber. I will continue with my pervious theory that BMW has significantly subsidized Sauber for 2010 or perhaps they sold to Peter for a lot less money (as we still don't have full details of the deal) and part of the deal is to keep the name for at least 2010.
