McCulloch signs new deal

Lee McCulloch has signed an improved contract to keep him at Wigan Athletic for another three years.

He revealed he never considered leaving Latics when he said: "I'm happy at Wigan, this is where my career has taken off , and where I've fulfilled my ambition of playing in the Premiership and for my country. Why would I want to leave?

"The club has been really special to me since I've been here, it's been a good time in my life and I'm really looking forward to the new season."

Paul Jewell was full of praise for McCulloch after he penned his new deal: "Lee is one of my consistent performers and the type of player who sums up what this club is about.

"He has talent in abundance, a terrific attitude and commitment and is the model pro.

"He can play in midfield or as a striker and is a player who is extremely valued here."
