Emmerson Boyce today signed a 4-year contract with Wigan Athletic, joining from Crystal Palace in a deal reputedly worth £1.75 million.

The 26-year-old defender was in the last year of his contract with Palace, and recently expressed a desire to play in the Premiership this coming season.

Peter Taylor reluctantly accepted Boyce's transfer request in order for Palace to get some money for his transfer.

The defender attracted interest from both Wigan and Charlton Athletic but opted for  Latics, so he can team up with former Eagle Fitz Hall.

This signing may spell the end for Pascal Chimbonda, with rumours from London suggesting Tottenham Hotspurs may offer cash plus Danny Murphy and Andy Reid in exchange for the want-away defender.
