Paul Jewell may face another FA probe

Latics boss Paul Jewell may face an FA inquiry after accusing Sunday’s referee Uriah Rennie of “wanting to make history” in the defeat to Arsenal.

Andreas Johansson was sent from the field of play minutes after coming on as a substitute for pulling on Freddie Ljungberg’s arm as he bore down on goal. Johansson hadn’t been on long enough to get a touch of the ball.

 

Jewell revealed he was still troubled by two penalty decisions which failed to be given Latics' way in the Carling Cup meeting between the two sides earlier in the season, and felt Rennie's display on Sunday lacked common sense.

 

He said: "We don't get penalties at Arsenal - we had two stone-wallers in the Carling Cup.

 

"I thought they had a good penalty shout themselves, but to send the boy off was nonsense really.

 

"I understand the referees have to work in parameters, but I feel the human touch has gone out of football a little bit.

 

"He has come on and has not touched the ball, and he sends him off. When you look back in years to come, Uriah Rennie's name will be in the record books, and he will like that.

 

“Uriah likes to make history, so something was bound to happen."
