Latics "swoop" for Andy Johnson/more Duke rumours

Latics have apparently made a £5million bid for Crystal Palace striker Andy Johnson.
Officials were on Tuesday waiting to hear back from Palace, but the club could face competition for his signature from Premiership rivals Everton, and the bid itself may not be good enough for Palace chaiman Simon Jordan, who is thought to value the
Johnson has scored 74 goals in 140 League appearances for Palace making him hot property after Palace failed to return to the premiership this season.
Jewell could also make a swoop for Nathan Ellington. Although Jewell may have to fork out the £3million he received from West Bromwich Albion for the striker, a return for Ellington could be a major factor in persuading Jason Roberts to extend his Latics contract, as he has recently been linked with Turkish side Besiktas.
