More points than punters

On a cold Octoberr evening Devonport Wariors and the Medics scored more points than there were paying punters watching on.

Warriors 67-3 Medics

Wednesday night saw the warm up match for Medical staff in preparation for the "Medics Rugby Challenge" on Tuesday 2nd November.

With the medics short of players and front row players Jordan Patey and Paul Creek started for the Medics

The Devonport Warriors took on the Medicos at Brickfields and after the 1st 10 minutes the points started and kept on recording until the match finished with a final drop kick from the medics.

It was a shame that there was not a few more there to watch the match. I counted between 70 and 80 there but that included a reasonable number of the first team players.

On 10 minutes the Warriors pack just pushed the Medics off the ball over the line to touch down. I thought it was Sam that had the final touch but have been informed that if fact it was Lewis Clarke but out wide on the right it was not converted.

Hooker and flanker Chey Bryce was the next to put points on the board as the line attacked on the right and with men over Chey ducked inside dropping over the line and making the conversion easier for Mark.

Nearly 20 minutes passed before Mark Lee attempted to touch down with men outside but was judged to have been held up. The Warriors did not leave it there but at the 5 metre scrum just drove the pack over the line and Kade Dillon picked up his 1st of two, Extras to Mark.

In the second minute of extra time Mark Lee was handed the ball to slot 3 points from 25 metres.

At the turn around the Medics stayed out in the cols and the Warriors went into the dressing rooms to warm up.

Oli Mulbry was on the end of the line and with a miss two pass was in clear on the left.

After several warnings one of the Medics got sin binned. and another penalty  that could have meant a penalty try but the Warriors pushed over and Kade got his second.

Mark Lee then ran in two tries one from half way in the centre and the other on the left before running around to make his conversion easier.

With 10 minutes to go the Warriors were up 48 - 0 and a bouncing bal was kicked ahead twice by Barney Loader and in front of the Medics defence to touch down.

6ft 5 plus Owain Lloyd who had just come on for Lewis Clarke looked as though he was going to go over on the left was being held so off loaded to the shortest player on the pitch Alex Jeffery to take the bal the final 2 metres and touch down.

There was no confusion about who scored the last try when Sam Mativasi picked up the ball 25 metres out and run straight for the post to get the touch down.

Despite a number of stoppages the final whistle was blown up on 38 minutes, by my watch, after the medics picked up 3 consolation points from out wide on the left. Any back in any team would have been very pleased to have have slotted those points.

Again a magic game to watch with a mixture of forwards and backs plays despite the cold players were out to impress with the poor results from the Albion this season.
