Dissapointing end to Doncaster trip

Albion played a good 70 minutes but were beaten by fresh legs in the last 10.

A cold day our arrival in Doncaster and a little concern was raised when we saw that the horse racing for the day had been abandoned. However rugby chaps are not a thoroughbred lot so the game went ahead.

A poor start saw Albion succumb to an early penalty followed by a disastrous mistake which gave Donny a soft try. Mrs Mitchell said her son would be going to bed early without any tea that evening!

Albion responded quickly after breaking though the Donny lines allow Rory WJ a simple touch down behind the posts.

The game then settled down with Albion passing well and moving the ball around quickly. Of note were the scrums which were much steadier than they have been of late and Tom Kessell had clearly learnt troubles at Worcester as he harried and disrupted his opposite number on many occasions.

At half time Albion were a little unfortunate to go in at half time a penalty down having previously drawn level, but the second half saw Albion dominating and applying a lot of pressure. Yet again we saw Albion camped on the opposition line adopting the ‘pick and go’ approach rather than setting up a decent maul which would have seen them go over. A paltry 3 points is poor reward for the opportunities that were available.

With 10 minutes to go the game turned suddenly against Albion. A good counter attack by Albion turned after a miss-judged short kick and Donny never looked back from then. Albion seemed to lose all confidence from then on and allowed the game to slip beyond them. Late substitutions did too little too late to recover the situation.

Overall an entertaining game which Albion could have won but sometimes they just get away.

Man of the match - Sean Michael who was everywhere.
