Here Comes The Summer

With the lack of tangible news coming out of Brickfields (for whatever reasons) and with the Undertones' catch little ditty buzzing round in my head just lately, I've been trying to focus on the positives and enjoy the successes going on in SW rugby.
So it was another day on the train to watch Cornwall yesterday. As a naturalised Janner, I can't really cheer on the team, but I can give the PARFC contingent a shout. Quite a little band of camp followers for the Albion lads in black and gold (family, players, staff, RATs) in attendance to see Billy run in a hat trick for the Duchy. Nile was playing postman and handing out envelopes to the boys ("Contracts?", we joked. Nah! - just pay chits.) and after a match which was overcast and a little damp, the sun came out to remind us that the summer is almost with us. It's great that the Plymouth contingent will have a run out at HQ in cornish colours under GD's stewardship to cap the amazing league campaign we - and they've enjoyed.
Post-game in the clubhouse at Camborne, it was good to hear the news that the Chiefs had triumphed over Wasps to get their day in the sun at Twickenham next weekend. Enough time has passed for my animosity regarding the differing fortunes the two biggest Devon clubs to have evaporated. In our own small way, by giving a platform to Tom Hayes, Nic Sestaret et al and game time to Henry, Jack and others we've contributed to Exeter's climb to the top of English rugby. The (highly leveraged) steamroller of the newly-crowned european champions may be odds-on to carry the double, but let's hope the sustainable, locally-produced business model of Baxter and his boys can do itself proud - and maybe provide an upset.
The future here in Plymouth may be a little uncertain right now, but there are a couple of lines in "Desiderata" that seem to resonate with me right now:
"Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings."
and
"And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should."
A bit hippy-dippy perhaps, but I'm not going to spend the off-season pondering the worst-case scenarios. Have a good summer, everyone!

While we all want to know everything that's happening especially now we have been promised a new bright future my guess is things are moving behind the scenes to make next season the best it can be (on and off the pitch) and as fans we can only wait patiently to be told about what's happening.
Good luck to all the Albion players past and present who will run out at Twickenham next week, despite the overly tribal comments from some all true Plymouth rugby fans will be behind you!
