Round 26 - Albion v Cambridge
By Dark Prophet
April 18 2023
Last game of the season for Albion as they entertain title candidate Cambridge.
5 points behind Rams, who are away to Esher, and with a game in hand, Cambridge will probably need a five point win to keep their title challenge on track.
With Cambridge sitting in third place and looking to extend their current run of 8 wins, this is going to be a difficult game for Albion who will need a 5 point win just to have an outside chance to snatch 4th from Rams.
At the start of the season Albion with a late, converted try brought home 2 points against Cambridge having clawed their way back into the from an early 22 point deficit.
Cambridge are averaging 5.4 tries per game to Albion's 4.3 and have conceded 3.2 to Albions 3.7.
Cambridge have the two highest try scorers in the league this season with winger Nana Kwaku Asiedu (26) and hooker Benjamin Brownlie (23) this suggests that they like to send the ball out to the wing and can be very dominant in the lineouts. To counter this Albion's backs will need to keep their wits about them, close down their opposite numbers and and for everyone to keep the penalty count down.
Referee for this weekend's event will be Richard Gordon who officiated at Albion's visit to Darlington. Mr Gordon is 'mid table' in terms of cards, but even so it would be wise to keep in his good books
Weather - a bit breezy with a chance of light rain a little chilly for the time of year.
Prediction - Albion have on occasion raised their game against stronger opposition, particularly at home, but on this occasion Cambridge should edge it in a high scoring game.
Other Games of note - Esher v Rams & Taunton v Leeds - With Esher and Taunton both fighting for survival, a likely win for Rams will provide an escape route for Taunton who will certainly fancy their chances against Leeds.
