The Ashes are so close, and we're so far away

With such a poor start, and The Ashes barely weeks away, I begin to wonder, if we can’t beat a team such as this, then what will The Ashes have in store for us?

If you could say one thing to the current England squad at the moment, what would it be? While I watched England v Australia in their opening game, that question went round in my mind. What would I say to them? At the moment they seem to be lacking confidence, or is it just that we’re not good enough? I can’t seem to put my finger on it, all I know is that we need to buck our ideas up and fast, or else we’re going to look stupid in The Ashes.

It wasn’t going too well for England as we suddenly lost both Trescothick and Cook in just 7 overs. Strauss and Collingwood tried as hard as they could to bring England back, with getting 112 between them yet we couldn’t seem to salvage much. Andrew Flintoff and Pieterson weren’t much help as they got out in quick successive overs.

With England only getting 181, a terrible 166 runs beat us as Australia showed England what they were made of. Jaques got the most on the score sheet with 112 runs with Marsh getting 78 not out. Collingwood, Flintoff, Giles, Mahmood and Anderson got out 1 each, but failed to get the rest out as at the end, the result was 347 – 5.
