Will Panesar Keep His Place?

England spinner Monty Panesar is fighting for his place as coach Duncan Fletcher stresses how he needs to get his fielding up to scratch.

There’s no doubt that Monty Panesar is a brilliant bowler. He has really come through leaps and bounds since he started in the England team, however his place is still uncertain. With Ashley Giles making a strong comeback will he take Monty’s place? Panesars bowling is up to scratch although his fielding is not. He has dropped so many chances, given away fours and missed simple catches.

Duncan Fletcher, England’s coach explains his situation, "We can't afford for anybody to drop any catches, no-one tries to drop them so we've got to make sure they work at their game and improve their game."

He added, " We've picked him as a spinner and he's picked to play as a spinner and do his job as a spinner and as long as he's trying there's nothing more you can ask of an individual."

Panesar is named in the unchanged side against Sri Lanka as they head to Trent Bridge on Friday for the final test of the Npower series, where England lead 1-0.
