Gillingham central defencer Guy Butters has signed for the club on a 2-year contract. His is replaced retired player Simon Morgan...

Martin Hinshelwood today secured the free transfer of Gillingham central defender, Guy Butters to the club on a 2-year contract. Butters is to take the place vacated by Simon Morgan, who retired at the end of the season.

Butters has played for the likes of Division One rivals such as Gillingham and Portsmouth, and has also played in the top flight fot Tottenham.

Butters signing, in addition to the loan of Graham Barrett is obviously the clubs answer to calls by the fans to do something to strenghten the squad, after the appaling start to the season. Some fans were foolishly calling on Hinshelwood to resign at this early stage of the season, just due to the three straight defeats. But Hinsh signing a player with the calibre of Barrett, and the experience of Butters shows he knows what to do once he is assured of the money being there.
